A structured path from family complexity to workable resolution.
Every divorce is different, but the path to a durable agreement follows a familiar shape. The VENNBOARD Method breaks that path into nine stages, one for each letter. It gives professionals and families a shared map of where they are, what comes next and what "done" looks like at each step.
The guiding promise: Understand the family. Verify the facts. Explore the options. Reach agreement. Move forward.
V: Verify the Information
Start from source documents, not memory. Statements, returns and records are gathered, checked for completeness and dated. Every later decision rests on this foundation.
Done when: the team trusts that the financial picture is complete and current.
E: Establish the Family Picture
Numbers alone don't describe a family. This stage captures the people involved, the children's needs, the household's routines and what matters most to each spouse.
Done when: everyone understands the family the agreement has to serve.
N: Navigate the Numbers
Assets, debts, income and expenses are organized into a clear picture, with characterization questions identified and the tax effects made visible.
Done when: both spouses understand where they stand financially, before and after taxes.
N: Negotiate the Options
With shared facts in place, the parties compare alternatives side by side: who keeps what, how support works, which parenting schedule fits.
Done when: the parties have narrowed the options to ones both can seriously consider.
B: Bring the Team Together
Lawyers, mediators, financial professionals, coaches and specialists align on the emerging agreement, each from their own role, and work from the same record.
Done when: every professional on the matter is working from the same version of the deal.
O: Organize the Agreement
Terms are set out clearly and completely: property division, support, the parenting plan, and the details that prevent future disputes, like valuation dates and survivor benefits.
Done when: the terms are unambiguous and match the numbers.
A: Assemble the Documents
The settlement agreement, parenting plan, court forms and retirement orders are prepared from the same agreed facts, so they agree with one another.
Done when: every document says the same thing.
R: Realize the Outcome
The agreement is signed, filed and carried out. Accounts are divided, titles are transferred and orders are accepted by the plans that must follow them.
Done when: the agreement has actually been carried out, not just signed.
D: Drive Forward
Each spouse leaves with a clear picture of their new financial life, and the family has a plan it can live with.
Done when: both households can move forward with confidence.
Why a method matters
A shared framework keeps a multi-professional team in sync and helps families understand what's happening and why. It also makes it obvious when a step was skipped. VennBoard is built around this path, from disclosure to decree.
