ABONY Secured Mastercard Credit Card Review

Overview

The ABONY Secured Mastercard is a mastercard card issued by Amalgamated Bank of NY, based in New York, NY.

If you are separating or co-parenting

These are the parts of this card that land differently when a household is becoming two. None of it is a recommendation — your own position decides that.

• A deposit instead of a credit history. A secured card asks for a refundable deposit rather than an established file, which is the usual way to open a first account in your own name. What to sort out before you apply.
• Ask what it costs to hold. One income is now covering two households, so an annual fee is a fixed cost worth knowing before you apply rather than after. Fees change, so get the current figure from Amalgamated Bank of NY.

More on money after a separation: rebuilding your credit · dividing debt · dividing property

Conclusion

This review covers what the ABONY Secured Mastercard is and how its structure lands if you are separating or co-parenting. It deliberately does not quote an interest rate, an annual fee or a credit limit, because those are set by Amalgamated Bank of NY, vary with your own creditworthiness, and change often enough that any figure printed here would be out of date before you read it.

For the current terms, go to Amalgamated Bank of NY directly. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau also publishes a free card comparison tool built from terms that issuers report twice a year, which is a better place to compare rates than any review page.
